What is Psychosomatic Disorder?
Psychosomatic disorder is a term which is mainly used to represent a physical disease which is either caused or gets worse by mental factors. The term can also be used to represent a situation where the mental factors start showing physical symptoms even when there is no physical disease. For instance, chest pain could be a result of just stress and no other physical disease. Various factors may affect the occurrence and severity of this disorder such as genetics, personality traits, biological factors, environmental family influences, learned behavior and more. Practice of Yoga is one of the antidotes for the psychosomatic diseases
A number of physical conditions and diseases are directly related to one’s mental state. These physical conditions may include skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema, high blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases and more. Psychosomatic disorder most commonly affects the gastrointestinal, respiratory and cardiovascular systems.
Psychosomatic disorder may affect one’s quality of life in a mild to severe way, ranging from interfering with the normal day to day life to causing mental and physical disability.
Treatment of Psychosomatic Disorders
